3/10/2020 Tuesday Psalm 128:1-4 NLT
How joyful are those who fear the Lord--
all who follow his ways!
2 You will enjoy the fruit of your labor.
How joyful and prosperous you will be!
Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine,
flourishing within your home.
Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees
as they sit around your table.
4 That is the Lord’s blessing
for those who fear him.
I don’t know about you, but when I reflect on biblical passages like today’s which highlight the value of fearing the Lord, it causes me to pause. Fear is not a positive experience for most of us, and so we have to examine what this teaching implies. Fearing the Lord is correctly understood as following all of God’s ways. This means that our relationship with God is rooted in living in right relationship to God, who is all-powerful and all-loving. Psalm 128 teaches us that there is excellent fruit in fear of the Lord. Right belief doesn’t lead to material prosperity, but in following all of God’s ways we have a perspective change where we actually see how prosperous we are already.
Do you struggle with the fear of God in your life? Why or why not?
